General Description: Kurai has a gothic appearance. He is skinny and long, but physically fit. Kurai often keeps his black hair in a mess, and has pale colored skin. He wears a full black body suit with straps that hang loose at several points. He has special shoes that allow him to feel the vibrations through the ground, but often goes barefoot.



Personality: Mysterious... if there was one word to describe Kurai. He rarely ever says a word, speaking only to family and close friends, and even these occasions are rare. If it happens to be someone he doesn't know, one would think Kurai was a mute. In the rare instances that Kurai does speak, he talks with the wisdom of someone doubled his age to be so young. With his face being a stoic, unreadable mask, he rarely ever shows any emotion besides irritation or anger. Kurai was one who kept to himself, feeling that associating with too many people would bring loud noises, disgusting smells, and unneeded drama. Most described him to be funny acting, an asshole, a retard. But those who knew him only said that he was different, or misunderstood. It took a lot to get underneath Kurai's skin, but god help the individual who did. One would think that Kurai didn't care about anyone or anything, even his own twin sister Hikari, but should his twin be harmed or threatened, Kurai would fly into an uncontrollable frenzy. Most of the time though, Kurai showed a passion for enhancing his Taijutsu and Doton Techniques, preparing himself for a time when he could unlock something within himself that hadn't been seen in centuries.

Likes: There wasn't much that Kurai liked. Of the few things he did take a liking to, one of them, the most obvious, had to be reading. He could almost always be found somewhere reading something; a comic book, a manga, even a dictionary. Kurai had read half of the library in his family's home by the time he was 9 years old. Perhaps it was because of his extensive reading and research that he seemed to be so wise - on the very rare occasions that he spoke - and even smarter than that of his parents. Besides reading, Kurai liked to practice Taijutsu and Doton Techniques, as well as all of his abilities, sharpening himself into a deadly sword.

Dislikes: Kurai did not like loud people, or loud noises in general. As a male, his hormones forced him to have a taste for the opposite sex of course, but only in books, where they were still and silent. Actual females, excluding his twin sister, got on Kurai's nerves. Always talking, always whining, always complaining. Always worried about their hair and nails, and gossiping about that mute kid in the back. Kurai did not like crowds of people. He did not like individuals with bad breath, or who did not bathe. Bad smells in general was something Kurai loathed with a passion.

Motivations: Motivations... Kurai's had to be waking up to see another day, to read another book, to learn a new Taijutsu or Doton Technique. He wanted to be stronger and smarter than any who'd come before him. A major motivation had to be the chance to travel the world one day, and experience other villages, other cultures, other fighting styles. His main motivation, that had to be reaching the heights of his clan and unlocking the untapped potential within him that hadn't been seen in the likes of the Yanagi in centuries. With the elder's prediction that it could possibly be him, or his sister, or possibly even both, Kurai set out to prove them right.

Fears: Kurai did not scare easily. He was frighteningly aware of the world and everything around him, so it was nearly impossible to surprise Kurai, even if he were deep into one of his books. Obviously, having been trained in fighting techniques since the time he could walk, he was well capable of defending himself, and wasn't scared of another person, be it someone his age or full grown. Leaving the world before his time had to be one of the things that shook him up. Never being able to realize his potential, or failing to reach those heights within his clan had to be another.

History: Hikari and Kurai Yanagi, (Light and Dark) were twins who were prophecised at birth to lead the clan into a new era. Both were said to possibly be the next generation to unlock potential and abilities that the clan hadn't seen in centuries. Kurai was born first, at night, thus the reason for his name, Dark. Hikari was born during the early morning hours of the next day, and she was named after Light. It seemed that the names given to the two children would fit during the coming years. Hikari, having inherited the Yanagi clan's blindness, nevertheless grew to be a bright and bubbily individual, whereas Kurai grew to become silent, withdrawn, and highly untrusting of those he didn't know.

While Hikari had a relatively normal upbringing despite her handicap, most thought Kurai had problems, even his parents, because he barely ever spoke. This frequently lead to confrontations and fights with other children his age, all of which ended with them on (and sometimes even in) the ground, and Kurai standing over them. Kurai also showed an unbreakable bond with his sister. One of the only people he would ever speak to, he would punish those who made fun of her for being blind. His parents began to think that Kurai would probably grow up to become a criminal or a serial killer, because fighting and causing pain to his tormentors seemed to be the only thing that brought even the slightest amount of joy to the child's face. He was examined by doctors and given several tests to gauge his mental capacities.

Kurai was found to be very intelligent and responsive to all of the tests given to him. He was diagnosed as "normal," if not a tad on the off side for being as quiet as he was. He gave no response when asked why he acted like he did, so with it not being very important his parents began to train he and Hikari. Kurai showed a great liking to Taijutsu and Doton, although he was capable of other techniques as well such as Ninjutsu and Fuuton; fighting and Earth techniques are where he shined. When not practicing and training, Kurai could always be found with a book in his hands. A story, a novel, a dictionary or a comic book, it didn't really matter what sort of book it was.

Elders told Kurai that he and his sister had the potential to wield Jutsu that hadn't been seen in a very long time. In an effort to find out, Kurai quickly became a Genin. Acceleration through training and the ranks in a village called Hinowagakure comes very quickly, and both he and his sister unlock potential within themselves the likes of which hadn't been seen for a very long time. However problems arise within the village of Hinowa, forcing them and their family to abandon the place.

Kurai and Hikari travel to a village called Makkuragakure, rumored to house powerful villains. The leader, a supposed criminal, murderer and terrorist named Alec Kane, said to be ruthless, uncaring and deranged, invited the twins to live in his village and gave them both residences all their own. While indeed a killer and terrorist, Alec only engages villanous deeds when there is good reason behind his acts, and remains loyal to those closest to him, showing them nothing but the utmost of hospitality.

It is after 2 years living in the village of Makkura that Kurai sheds his silent ways and closed off personality and becomes what is considered "normal," regularly speaking to people and engaging in conversation with total strangers; at the same time sharpening his skills and himself into a deadly sword.

RP Sample: It was another day of training. Another day of doing research within dusty old books. He felt himself pushing closer to his goals. Kurai didn't exactly know his sister's plans; he never asked her. But himself, he planned on pushing as far as he could push, and beyond. One day he would be within one of these dusty old books, and perhaps somewhere down the line, one of his descendants would be doing the research on him.
