General Description: Idaten takes great pride in his appearance, always making sure that his red hair’s always swept back off of his face. His body has a lean build, focused much more on quick movements than strength. He can always be seen wearing his usual black coat that goes down to his knees with black shoes, dark pants, and a dark shirt on. Uses the coat to hide exactly what kind of equipment he’s carrying (how many pockets, where they are, etc.)
 
 
 
Personality: Overall, Idaten seems like a pretty simple person. He’s a hopeless romantic (but not a perv… there’s a difference) and usually avoids conflict, cowering away from fights while in the village and not very quick to stand up for himself, even though he has a fairly large ego. Especially regarding his appearance. However, once he gets out on a mission or a training exercise, Idaten seems like a completely different person. He still attempts to avoid fighting directly whenever possible, but he has no problems with killing with as much brutal efficiency as possible, sometimes even going as far as to ‘accidently’ push people into traps just to get rid of them once they’ve been captured.
 
He’ll lie, misdirect, and deceive people however possible to manage to kill his enemies. Why? Because underneath it all, under his cowardly attitude and the unwillingness to fight, Idaten is a sadistic narcissist with deeply hidden philosophies. He doesn’t just live in the world, it belongs to him and anyone who defies his goals doesn’t even deserve to live unless their existence amuses him in some obscure way. Or, at least, that’s how his twisted mind works. Secretly, he dreams of one day earning a reputation as the Raikage’s bloodiest and most dangerous ninja to the point where his very name and reputation will be enough to keep people from making the dumbest decision of their life. The decision to just try and oppose him.
 
Or it could just be an act, right? ……….. Right?!
 
Likes: Seems to highly enjoy taking the lives of others for no reason other than the simple thrill of taking out someone in his way. After all, if a ninja stands against him and they survive, they’ll just end up trying to stand against him again or share information about his jutsu and traps that might help another person kill him later on. Of course, there are exceptions to this, but they’re few and far between. Idaten is also a very egocentric person willing to let rather suspicious behavior slide if he wants to. And, as most people who work with him learn quickly, Idaten spends a lot of his free time going back and forth about relationship issues despite never actually being in a lasting relationship. It’s almost sad at times, but he seems to enjoy the thought of finding his match.
 
Dislikes: Has a strong dislike for direct confrontation. Of any kind, really. Mainly while he’s not out on a mission expecting it. While you can kill whoever you want in a mission, there’s only so many times a village member can mysteriously disappear before people get suspicious. Not that there’s been any disappearances in the village…. But it’s something he can get over if he gets along with someone well. If Idaten directly calls someone out on something instead of going through his usual manner of implying it and walking away, then it either means that you’re a good friend of his or that he’s about to try and murder you. Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to tell the difference.
 
Motivations: Of course Idaten’s motives are like most ninjas. To seek death, power, and prove his value to the world as it’s one true master, unite all lands under one banner, find a special someone to settle down with, have a kid and watch them grow up to disgrace daddy’s good name, then deal with them when they turn on you, go on more missions, further solidify your legacy, more death, more pursuit of power, wash, rinse, repeat. But, unlike most ninja, Idaten wants to find a spider chakra beast to seal inside of him. Why? Because spiders are the most beautifully deadly things on the planet for their size! Also he wants to find someone who knows sealing jutsu to complete said spider-beast plan.
 
Fears: Weirdly enough, Idaten has a fear of spiders. Although, for him, fear might not be the best word. Sometimes he seems to be completely at a loss for words but any actual fear he has is a respectful fear. He’s unnerved by them but also gets a weird satisfaction out of how unnerved they can make him. And if a being can make him think twice about approaching it, especially an eight legged arachnid, then it deserves his respect for it has beaten the master of his own little world. Although there is a reason these things do scare him linked in his past, Idaten always prefers not to think about that obvious situation and instead focus on how brilliantly designed they are in general so he doesn’t have to admit his failure.
 
 
History: At a young age, Idaten always had a desire for attention. His parents never seemed to care about him until he started learning the ways of the shinobi, where he constantly tried to work to improve his abilities in Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. He was never at the top of his class or showed any special skills, but he wasn’t a failure, either. Instead he simply took what he knew and managed to try and make it work however he could. Back then, Idaten was a bit of a different person than he is now…. He was resourceful, but hot tempered. Even a bit overly aggressive at times. But, ultimately, he was a pretty standard ninja just trying to make a living and get his name out there.
 
Then, things began to change for Idaten’s mindset during the chunin exams. Before he even started, he realized that he had to get as much information about the setup of the exam early on as he could and quickly got some information from a drunken jounin. He knew that he would have to mainly deal with facing other ninja, something he had never been that great at, so Idaten spent almost all of his spare time working on his speed and grappling skills. He grew increasingly paranoid about his technique as time went on until it was finally time to put them to the test. It was fairly easy, all things considered, to use lightning style attacks and shurikens to distract the enemy before grabbing them and using his chakra to electrocute them. Even when the enemy knew what was coming, Idaten became skilled at finding ways to catch them off guard and get in while he could. But the stress clearly got to him near the end, carrying over even after he passed.
 
In many ways, the exam broke him. It instilled him with something he had never had to worry about before, a fear of death and pain. It’s at this point that the young ninja began to lose his assertive nature. He began to be very fearful and reclusive of other people, associating them as potential threats. But this would not be the last time his mindset, his own personal reality, would be tested and broken. Eventually, the paranoid ninja started going out on a few simple low-rank missions. He even started to slowly start getting over his problems, but then things took a rather unusual turn.
 
While he was still getting over his experience, Idaten was sent on a mission that took a turn for the worse. The mission was simply to deliver a scroll to another land, sending Idaten and another ninja. But, partway through the mission, their path was intercepted by a monstrous beast that appeared from underground. When they finally got a look at the monster, it almost seemed to defy rational sense. It appeared to be a massive eight foot tall spider with a large, white, mask of a human face sealed onto the front of it. The spider’s normal face, which consisted of four separate fangs, dangled out from below the chin of the mask like some mock beard as it charged at them. Immediately, Idaten went with his first instinct, to try and grab onto the spider’s leg and electrocute it, but the masked spider’s limb opened up as he got close, forming digits resembling a twisted four-fingered hand. Instead, the spider grabbed him as his partner tried to get on top of the obstacle they had to overcome. Lightning shot out of Idaten’s body, but it had no effect against the enemy and only served to upset it. Symbols seemed to appear on the spider’s mask, being drawn to the center of the mask’s forehead. Then, the ninja started to hear a distorted sound in his mind as the spider tried to communicate. While no words were heard, he felt an overwhelming feeling of hatred, fear, and a slight sense of despair. Idaten began begging for mercy while the spider began to tear apart his mind for what felt like hours before his ally finally managed to wound the beast with a fire-style technique, forcing the masked spider to retreat back underground.
 
To his partner on the mission, it was no big deal. Just a summoned animal that got loose with a few weird features. But to Idaten, the mental pain lasted through the rest of the day as if it was some form of poison. And then, almost like a bad dream, he simply seemed to forget about the experience. All the fear, the paranoia, the aggression, and the pain simply went away. He was a changed man. A more dangerous man. A shell of his former self who, thanks to being broken down, had been conditioned to mask his former life behind the disguise of an unassuming coward and an egocentric secret extremist. No report was ever filed on the weird animal that attacked them and, as unusual as his sudden shift was, no investigations have been done into Idaten so far. He simply changed and ‘grew’ into a more effective ninja, and nobody ever seemed to really notice the difference despite how striking it was. At least, no one has so far….
 
 
RP Sample: With each step the cold air weighed down heavier on his body and mind. Idaten sighed as he glanced up the seemingly impassable hill. Still a long way to go before he could reach the top and the snow wasn’t getting any less deep from here. It was an easy mission without any real conflict, deliver a golden bell to the town’s shrine… or something…. Honestly, he didn’t really pay much attention after they told him there wouldn’t be any real enemies involved. But had he known it would be this cold, he would have prepared a bit more.
 
“Why didn’t they just give this mission to someone who knows fire style?” The ninja groaned. “Or at least ice jutsu. There’s no way someone who fights with ice would be bugged by this crap. Maybe they’d even have some way to get this done faster, too?” A sigh escaped him as he continued talking to himself. “I’m definatly going to catch a cold from this. And I was going to ask out that cute girl from the weapon shop, too!” Finally, Idaten shrugged his shoulders and continued forward. “Oh well…. I guess I just have to avoid talking to her then so she doesn’t catch the cold I’m going to get from bravely battling the elements. Maybe next time I get back from a mission?”
 
But, almost somewhat ironically, Idaten came back from his mission completely fine. His latest crush, however, had come down with a horrible virus. To this day Idaten refuses to try and talk to her, insisting that he’s being brave by not letting her catch the cold he claims to have had… even though he never actually caught any cold at all……..
